Origins Of The War

May 15th, 2012 — 12:00 am
It has been the case that throughout history many people have attempted to revise history to suit the needs of their time. In an unprecedented way, many people in power today are trying to revise contemporary history and they seem to be getting away with it (at least 61,000,000 people are buying it). The Indy Voice wanted to re-revise history to represent reality (wow, what a concept). Many have said that George W. Bush's idea for war with Iraq came only after 9/11 and was only for national ...

Let's Restrict the Definition of Marriage for Straights

May 5th, 2012 — 12:23 am
The debate du jour across the country is whether to legitimatize homosexual unions with the title of 'marriage.' The primary argument against this move is that doing so dilutes the meaning of marriage and diminishes the family, which is one of the cornerstones of civilization. I happen to agree with this perspective. However, there are heterosexual couplings that also fit that template. Perhaps we should also restrict the definition of 'marriage' for heterosexuals as well. The most visible ' ...

What is a Family?

May 3rd, 2012 — 12:25 am
WHAT IS A FAMILY? BY THERESA CHAZE What is a family? Is it a man, a woman and their children? Or is it something more than just blood ties of the traditional concept? Do adopted children qualify? Do stepparents? The current administration is trying to carve in stone their definitions of marriage and family by using their own narrow concept of life to turn back the clock and to limit under what condition people may bond together. The changes began during WWII, when women were called to serve ...

Current Cambodia’s Prevalent Diarrheas and My Simplified Resolutions

May 1st, 2012 — 12:35 am
Evolving world is immeasurably facilitating people's livelihood, especially people living in the western world. Simultaneously, many negative points are persistently attacking Third World and Developing countries, mostly in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America. I was immensely taken aback after I saw UNDP's report; 'more than a billion people still live on less than US$1 a day.' Being one of the citizens living in Cambodia, one of the world's most desperate countries, I have encountered ...

The Iraqi Election

April 29th, 2012 — 12:43 am
Just a couple of thoughts about the recent "election" in Iraq: 1- The election in Iraq is neither a victory nor a defeat for George W. Bush and the ideology he represents. At no point prior to the start of this conflict was the establishment of democracy an explicitly stated goal of this administration. That is not why the Senate voted to authorize the use of force and it is not why the American people gave the war overwhelming initial support. Democracy, if that does in fact come about, would ...

Immigration

April 27th, 2012 — 12:06 am
Immigration By Punkerslut Before civilization would know the world, there was no slavery, there was barely any property, and the most destructive form of war was a simple, aggressive feud. Before organized society was born on this planet, life was simple, there was no authority, no authority to abuse, and the land was the common property of all living creatures. Once men organized themselves into hierarchies, giving certain occupations, giving certain authorities, requiring obedience, ...

Whose Values Are They Anyway?

April 22nd, 2012 — 02:29 am
First there was the sight of Janet Jackson's pastie-adorned breast at the Superbowl, then Nicollet Sheridan's towel-dropping scene on Monday Night Football. A public outcry followed, deploring the obsessively sexual orientation of advertising, entertainment, and the media as a whole. As the debates rage, a core question must arise: if sex is known to sell anything, who is doing the buying? Public Relations and marketing gurus give the public what they crave. If they don't, they are out of a ...

Bush Victory

April 21st, 2012 — 12:02 am
The shouting is over and directions for the next four years selected. Judging by past behavior (the best predictor, psychologically, of future behavior), we can look forward to: 1. Continued and probably expanded tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and large Corporations. It is no surprise that the stock market soared on the election news: big business stands to gain greatly by the results. Predictions? A strong effort to curtail product lawsuits, no matter how valid, to protect bottom line ...
